![]() The first Dumont watchmaking tools were developped in 1875 by Arnold Dumont in La Sagne (canton of Neuchâtel, in the heartland of the Swiss watch making industry). Arnold Dumont, a self-taught watchmaker, started in 1881 in La Chaux-de-Fonds to manufacture, with the only help of hammers, anvils and files, tools designed for watchmaking. Later on, he adapted his forms to different applications. Thirty-four years later, two of his sons, Paul and Theodore, took over the company. Dumont tools, which were originally created specifically for Swiss watchmakers, were now articles in great request abroad as well. Succeeding her late husband Theodore Dumont, Mrs. Suzanne Dumont took over the company in 1927. Dumont products enjoyed an increasing popularity as the years went by: a steadily growing popularity which was reflected in the efforts of competing firms to copy Dumont style in tools they brought to market. But Dumont quality proved to be inimitable. Today, Dumont still preserves its character as a purely family company, while constantly alert to the possibilities offered by modern technology in exploiting its long experience and established production skills in the making of precision tools. This could be the reason why these "precision fingers of steel" are continuing to expand their applications beyond the watchmaking field itself. They are used in such areas as electronics, biology, microsurgery, forcing us to always keep up with the most modern developments. The precision of our tools depends on the very carefully executed quality controls during the whole production process. A very complete training of our personnel teaches each one of them a sense of responsibility and the pleasure of well done work. A close collaboration with our clients is however also essential for the development of our company. |
