  1. The type and fineness of the tips.
  2. The alloy best suited for the application.

Standard
tips are designed for the most exacting work under the microscope. The approximate dimensions of these tips vary with different forceps. See the dimensions with each item description. Slight variations to the given dimensions can occur, as the tips are hand fashioned.

Biology
identifies forceps especially produced for application in biological sciences. In overall shape and dimensions these forceps are identical to the standard types but have the added feature of tips being approximately twice as fine.

Electronic :

These precise tweezers are made with slightly larger tips than the DUMONT High Precision type and are offered in three qualities of steel:

  • Carbon
  • Stainless
  • Antimagnetic

The handles of these tweezers are  covered by an insulating, non-skidding, wear and shock resistant material. Each steel quality has its own color in shades specially chosen for protection against eyesight fatigue.

Dumont Industrial:

These are standard tweezers featuring strong tips; they are made in two qualities of steel:

  • Stainless
  • Antimagnetic

The handles of these tweezers are covered the same way as those of the electronic quality.

Carbon Steel
will withstand hard use of the tips but has the disadvantage of staining easily and being highly magnetic.

Inox
is an alloy which has a certain amount of Chromium added to Carbon Steel. This results in some loss of hardness but offers good stainless steel qualities. Inox forceps are magnetic.

Dumoxel
is a patented Dumont alloy which provides optimal Stainless Steel features while still retaining adequate hardness. The combination makes it the most requested type of metal in Dumont tweezers. Dumoxel is non-magnetic.

Titanium
forceps have several distinct advantages. They are fully corrosion resistant. For instance, salt water is non-reactive to this alloy. Although not as hard as Inox, it is a more flexible metal. It is also 40% lighter than stainless steel, giving it greater mobility with less user fatigue. Titanium forceps are 100% non-magnetic and heat resistant to temperatures up to 440°C (1022°F).

This new high technology alloy (40% Cobalt) features outstanding results and unmatched durability. It is the result of long research and testing, and we think it is the steel that is really able to meet modern requirements.

Dumostar
tweezers are entirely made from this new alloy, not only the tips, but the complete tweezers.

Main features:
  • Non magnetic: on a 0,2 mm strip cold-hammered to 80 %
  • Bs - H at 20oC = 105 G for H max = 8000oC
    Bs - H at 196oC = 640 G
  • Resistant to fatigue, modulus of elasticity 210,000 MPA
  • Hardness about 720 Vickers / 61 Rockwell on the tips.
  • Resistance to high temperatures 550oC max.
  • Very good resistance to corrosion: sea water, HCL, H3PO4, HNO3, H2SO4; it is also resistant to neutral and alkaline environments. Its resistance is quite superior to that of the best stainless steel.

DUMOSTAR - tweezers have tips that are insensitive to fatigue and never lose their elasticity.

The hardness of the tips is progressive, so that is reaches its peak in the employment zone, where we have measured a Rockwell - hardness of 63 to 64 for model Number 5.

They can be used in applications such as:

  • microsurgery
  • ophthalmology
  • biology
  • micro-electronics
  • watch making & repair
